Service13th Maine was organized at Portland, Maine, and mustered into Federal service for a three-year enlistment on December 13, 1861. The veterans and recruits of the 13th were consolidated to a single battalion and transferred to 30th Maine on December 25, 1864. Those soldiers who did not reenlist were discharged from service on January 5, 1865. Total strength and casualtiesThe regiment lost 1 officer and 13 enlisted men killed in action or died of wounds and 3 officers and 178 died of disease for a total of 195 fatalities from all causes.[1] Commanders
