The 1981 Major League Baseball regular season started Saturday, April 11, and ended Monday, October 5. Managed by Dave Garcia, the Indians had 52 wins and 51 losses, giving them a winning percentage of .505. The Indians finished sixth in the American League East. - December 9, 1980: Gary Alexander, Víctor Cruz, Rafael Vásquez, and Bob Owchinko were traded by the Indians to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Bert Blyleven and Manny Sanguillén.[2]
Regular season - May 15, 1981: Len Barker pitched a perfect game against the Toronto Blue Jays. It was the tenth perfect game ever pitched, is one of only seventeen in the history of the major leagues, and remains the last no-hitter thrown by an Indian.[3] In that season he also was selected an All-Star.
