According to the {{PH wikidata|population_as_of}}, it has a population of {{PH wikidata|population_total}} people.{{PH census|current}} It is the largest municipality in the province in terms of land area, occupying {{convert|1343.75|km2|2|abbr=out}}. It was named after Major General Guillermo Peñamante Nakar (1905–1942), the martyred leader of the 1st Battalion of the 71st Infantry Division of the USAFFE against the attacking Japanese Forces.
