They were led by head coach Norv Turner in his first season as head coach of the Raiders. They played their home games at Network Associates Coliseum as member of the AFC West. They finished the season 5–11, finishing in last place in the AFC West for the second consecutive year. Though Rich Gannon began the season as the Raiders starting quarterback, he suffered a neck injury in the third game of the season that would eventually lead to his retirement. For the second consecutive season, the Raiders suffered a five-game losing streak in the middle of the season. They only won one game by a touchdown or more, defeating their Super Bowl XXXVII opponent, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 20–10. The team lost two of their starting receivers from the 2002 team: Tim Brown was released and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jerry Rice was traded to the Seattle Seahawks midseason. Previous seasonThe Raiders finished the 2003 season 4–12 to finish in a tie for last place in the AFC West. Following the season, Raider owner Al Davis fired head coach Bill Callahan after two years as head coach.[1][2] A month later, the team named Norv Turner head coach.[3] OffseasonNFL Draft{{NFL team draft start| year = 2004 | teamname = Oakland Raiders }}{{NFL team draft entry | round = 1 | pick = 2 | player = Robert Gallery | position = OT | college = Iowa | notes = | maderoster = yes | hof = | probowl = }}{{NFL team draft entry | round = 2 | pick = 45 | player = Jake Grove | position = C | college = Virginia Tech | notes = | maderoster = yes | hof = | probowl = }}{{NFL team draft entry | round = 3 | pick = 67 | player = Stuart Schweigert | position = FS | college = Purdue | notes = | maderoster = | hof = | probowl = }}{{NFL team draft entry | round = 4 | pick = 99 | player = Carlos Francis | position = WR | college = Texas Tech | notes = | maderoster = | hof = | probowl = }}{{NFL team draft entry | round = 5 | pick = 134 | player = Johnnie Morant | position = WR | college = Syracuse | notes = | maderoster = | hof = | probowl = }}{{NFL team draft entry | round = 6 | pick = 166 | player = Shawn Johnson | position = DE | college = Delaware | notes = | maderoster = | hof = | probowl = }}{{NFL team draft entry | round = 6 | pick = 182 | player = Cody Spencer | position = LB | college = North Texas | notes = | maderoster = | hof = | probowl = }}{{NFL team draft entry | round = 7 | pick = 245 | player = Courtney Anderson | position = TE | college = San Jose State | notes = | maderoster = | hof = | probowl = }}{{NFL team draft entry | round = 7 | pick = 255 | player = Andre Sommersell | position = LB | college = Colorado State | notes = | maderoster = | hof = | probowl = }}{{NFL team draft end}} PersonnelStaff
