The whole council was up for election and the Liberal Democrats lost overall control of the council to no overall control.[1] Election resultThe results saw the Liberal Democrats lose their majority on the council, after the Labour party made a gain of 12 seats,[2] meaning the Liberal Democrats would require the casting vote of the mayor to continue running the council.[3] The Green Party meanwhile gained a seat on the council.[4] {{Election Summary Begin|title = Islington Council Election Result 2006[5]}}{{Election Summary Party||party = Liberal Democrats (UK) |seats = 24 |gain = 1
