Central Michigan competed as a member of the West Division of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The Chippewas were led by second-year head coach Butch Jones. Central Michigan finished the regular season with an 8–4 overall record and 6–2 in conference play, which was good enough for second place in the MAC West. The team received a bid to the 2008 Motor City Bowl,[1] where they faced the Florida Atlantic Owls led by head coach Howard Schnellenberger. The two teams were tied throughout the third quarter until the Owls pulled away. Central Michigan quarterback Dan LeFevour led a touchdown drive in the final three minutes, but an onside kick attempt failed, and the Chippewas lost, 24–21.[2] Schedule{{CFB schedule| rankyear = 2008 | timezone = Eastern |{{CFB schedule entry | date = August 28 | time = 7:00 PM | w/l = w | nonconf = y | opponent = {{cfb link|year=2008|team=Eastern Illinois Panthers|school=Eastern Illinois University|title=Eastern Illinois}} | site_stadium = Kelly/Shorts Stadium | site_cityst = Mount Pleasant, MI | tv = | score = 31–12 | attend = 19,732 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = September 6 | time = 3:30 PM | w/l = l | nonconf = y | away = y | opponent = Georgia | opprank = 2 | site_stadium = Sanford Stadium | site_cityst = Athens, GA | tv = FSN | score = 17–56 | attend = 92,746 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = September 13 | time = 2:00 PM | w/l = w | away = y | opponent = Ohio | site_stadium = Peden Stadium | site_cityst = Athens, OH | tv = | score = 28–31 | attend = 18,268 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = September 20 | time = 12:00 PM | w/l = l | nonconf = y | away = y | opponent = Purdue | site_stadium = Ross–Ade Stadium | site_cityst = West Lafayette, IN | tv = BTN | score = 25–32 | attend = 57,101 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = September 27 | time = 4:00 PM | w/l = w | opponent = Buffalo | site_stadium = Kelly/Shorts Stadium | site_cityst = Mount Pleasant, MI | tv = | score = 27–25 | attend = 21,032 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 11 | time = 4:00 PM | w/l = w | homecoming = y | opponent = Temple | site_stadium = Kelly/Shorts Stadium | site_cityst = Mount Pleasant, MI | tv = ESPN+ | score = 24–14 | attend = 22,114 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 18 | time = 12:00 PM | w/l = w | opponent = Western Michigan | site_stadium = Kelly/Shorts Stadium | site_cityst = Mount Pleasant, MI | tv = ESPN+ | score = 38–28 | attend = 30,302 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 25 | time = 12:00 PM | w/l = w | away = y | opponent = Toledo | site_stadium = Glass Bowl | site_cityst = Toledo, OH | tv = ESPN+ | score = 24–23 | attend = 21,422 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = November 1 | time = 12:00 PM | w/l = w | nonconf = y | away = y | opponent = Indiana | site_stadium = Memorial Stadium | site_cityst = Bloomington, IN | tv = BTN | score = 37–34 | attend = 26,140 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = November 12 | time = 8:00 PM | w/l = w | away = y | opponent = Northern Illinois | site_stadium = Huskie Stadium | site_cityst = DeKalb, IL | tv = ESPN2 | score = 33–30 | attend = 13,543 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = November 19 | time = 7:00 PM | w/l = l | opponent = Ball State | opprank = 17 | site_stadium = Kelly/Shorts Stadium | site_cityst = Mount Pleasant, MI | tv = ESPN2 | score = 24–31 | attend = 20,114 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = November 28 | time = 12:00 PM | w/l = l | away = y | opponent = Eastern Michigan | site_stadium = Rynearson Stadium | site_cityst = Ypsilanti, MI | tv = | score = 52–56 | attend = 26,188 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = December 26 | time = 7:30 PM | w/l = l | nonconf = y | neutral = y | opponent = Florida Atlantic | gamename = Motor City Bowl | site_stadium = Ford Field | site_cityst = Detroit, MI | tv = ESPN | score = 21–24 | attend = 41,399 }} }} References1. ^Central Michigan 2008 Schedule/Results, ESPN, retrieved June 26, 2009. {{Central Michigan Chippewas football navbox}}{{collegefootball-season-stub}}{{Michigan-sport-stub}}2. ^Smith's 307 yards, two TDs lead Owls past Central Michigan, ESPN, December 26, 2008. 3 : 2008 Mid-American Conference football season|Central Michigan Chippewas football seasons|2008 in sports in Michigan |
