The 2009 Aéro-Frêt Antonov An-12 crash was the crash of an Antonov An-12 into a cemetery at Brazzaville, Congo on 26 August 2009.

Aircraft

The aircraft involved was an Antonov An-12BK of Aéro-Frêt, registration TN-AIA.[2] The aircraft was manufactured in 1966, msn 6344607.[3]

Accident

The aircraft crashed into a cemetery at Nganga Lingolo on the outskirts of Brazzaville while on a flight from Pointe Noir Airport. The accident happened at 06:00 local time. The five Ukrainian crew and the Congolese passenger died in the accident.[2] The accident site is {{convert|11|km|mi}} south east of Maya-Maya airport. The aircraft was due to land on runway 05, it was carrying a cargo of food, a minibus and three other vehicles.[3] The METAR in force at the time of the accident was METAR FCBB 260600Z 27006KT 7000 SCT016 OVC130 21/20 Q1015 NOSIG (translation: Metar for Maya-Maya airport, issued at 06:00 UTC on the 26th of the month. Wind direction 270° at {{convert|6|kn|km/h}}, visibility {{convert|7|km|mi}}, scattered clouds at {{convert|1600|ft|m}}, overcast at {{convert|13000|ft|m}}, temperature 21 °C, dewpoint 20 °C, QNH 1013 millibars, no significant change expected in next few hours).[4] At the time of the accident it was drizzling and visibility was {{convert|3.5|km|mi}}.[1] Eyewitnesses reported that one of the wings was on fire before the crash, and that the aircraft broke up in mid-air.{{#tag:ref|{{cite web|url=http://uk.news.yahoo.com/18/20090826/twl-seven-dead-in-russian-cargo-plane-cr-4bdc673.html |title=Seven dead in Russian cargo plane crash in Congo |publisher=Yahoo News |accessdate=26 August 2009}} {{Dead link|date=October 2010|bot=H3llBot}} Note: The title of this article comes from an early report of the incident that incorrectly stated the number of deaths. Investigation

The accident is being investigated by the Congolese National Agency for Civil Aviation.[5]
