The 2009 IIHF Division I World Championship was an ice hockey tournament under the authority of the International Ice Hockey Federation. It was contested from April 11–17, 2009. The tournament was played amongst two separate groups. Group A's tournament was held in Vilnius, Lithuania. The Group B games was hosted by Toruń, Poland.[1]

Team Qualification
SVN}} Relegated from Elite Pool in 2008.
KAZ}} Placed second in Group A at the 2008 Division I tournament.
JPN}} Placed third in Group B at the 2008 Division I tournament.
LTU}} Host, Placed fourth in Group B at the 2008 Division I tournament.
CRO}} Placed in fifth Group B at the 2008 Division I tournament.
AUS}} Placed first in Division II tournament pool, Promoted to Division I.
