It was held from August 3 to August 16, 2009 in Boston, United States. The Netherlands won the tournament for the second time after defeating Argentina 3–0 in the final. Defending champions Korea won the third place match by defeating England 2–1.[1] QualificationEach continental federation got a number of quotas depending on the FIH World Rankings for teams qualified through their junior continental championships. Along with the host nation, 16 teams competed in the tournament.[2][3]
{{note|1|1}} – Egypt withdrew from participating. As the first reserve team was previously assigned to the European Federation, France took their place as winners of the 2012 EuroHockey Junior Nations Trophy. {{note|2|2}} – Australia and New Zealand qualified automatically due to the lack of other competing teams in the Oceania qualifier.[4] ResultsAll times are Eastern Daylight Time (00)[5]Preliminary roundPool A{{#invoke:Sports table|main|style=WDL|update=complete |source=[https://tms.fih.ch/fih/competitions/129 FIH] |team1=KOR |team2=ENG |team3=CHL |team4=FRA |result1=Q |result2=Q |result3=Q |result4= |win_KOR=2 |draw_KOR=1 |loss_KOR= |gf_KOR=12 |ga_KOR=4 |win_ENG=2 |draw_ENG=1 |loss_ENG= |gf_ENG=9 |ga_ENG=2 |win_CHL=1 |draw_CHL=0 |loss_CHL=2 |gf_CHL=3 |ga_CHL=8 |win_FRA=0 |draw_FRA=0 |loss_FRA=3 |gf_FRA=1 |ga_FRA=11 |name_KOR={{fhw|South Korea}} |name_ENG={{fhw|England}} |name_CHL={{fhw|Chile}} |name_FRA={{fhw|France}} |res_col_header=Q |col_Q=#ccffcc |text_Q=Advance to Medal Round |class_rules = 1) points;
