The club won the Russian Premier League for the second time in four years and the Russian Cup for the first time since 1999, completing a double. Internationally, the club was registered for Europe's highest level of football competition, the 2010–11 UEFA Champions League, as the third place team from Russia in 2009. Zenit were drawn into the Group Stage of the 2010–11 UEFA Europa League alongside Anderlecht, AEK Athens and Hajduk after falling 2–1 on aggregate to French club Auxerre in the Champions League play-off round.
