It commenced on 14 February 2011 with the final played on 14 May 2011.[1] The draw for the 2011 competition was made at Belfast City Hall on 13 December 2010. Changes to structureFor the 2011 competition, the Setanta Cup was expanded to 12 teams, of which the four highest ranked teams received a bye into the Quarter-Finals. Also unlike previous years the tournament was played as a straight knock-out competition over two legs apart from the final.[2] Television CoverageSetanta Sports broadcast live coverage of five games, starting with the quarter-finals. First roundFour League of Ireland and Four IFA Premiership teams played each other in the first round over two games with the winners qualifying for the Quarter-Finals. The first legs were played on 14 February/21 February/1 March 2011 and the second legs were played on 28 February/1 March/7 March 2011. Sporting Fingal had originally been scheduled to compete in the tournament against Lisburn Distillery but withdrew on 9 February due to financial difficulties which saw them fold the following day and were replaced by UCD.[3] {{TwoLegStart}}{{TwoLegResult|Linfield|NIR|4−6|Dundalk|IRE|3−5|1−1}}{{TwoLegResult|UCD|IRE|0−2|Lisburn Distillery|NIR|0−0|0−2}}{{TwoLegResult|Cliftonville|NIR|3−2|St Patrick's Athletic|IRE|3−0|0−2}}{{TwoLegResult|Bohemians|IRE|1−4|Portadown|NIR|1−2|0−2}}|} MatchesFirst leg{{football box|bg=EEEEEE |date=14 February 2011 |time=19.45 |team1=Linfield |score=3 – 5 |report=[https://web.archive.org/web/20110713210845/http://www.linfieldfc.com/matchreport.asp?mid=658 Report] |team2=Dundalk |goals1=Thompson {{goal|43}} Garrett {{goal|64}} Allen {{goal|81}} |goals2=Kearns {{goal|31||66||90+2}} Quigley {{goal|54||75}} |stadium=Windsor Park |attendance= |referee=Stephen Weatherall (Antrim) }} {{football box |bg=EEEEEE |date=14 February 2011 |time=19.45 |team1=UCD |score=0 – 0 |report=Report |team2=Lisburn Distillery |goals1= |goals2= |stadium=Dalymount Park |attendance=150 |referee=Derek Tomney (Dublin) }} {{football box |bg=EEEEEE |date=21 February 2011 |time=19.45 |team1=Cliftonville |score=3 − 0 |report=Report |team2=St Patrick's Athletic |goals1=McMullan {{goal|31||49}} O'Connor {{goal|42}} |goals2= |stadium=Solitude |attendance=400 |referee=Davie Malcolm }} {{football box |bg=EEEEEE |date=1 March 2011 |time=19.45 |team1=Bohemians |score=1 − 2 |report=Report |team2=Portadown |goals1=Somers {{goal|63}} Brennan {{sent off|0|77}} |goals2=Braniff {{goal|45}} O'Hara {{goal|59}} |stadium=Dalymount Park |attendance=800 |referee=Tom Connolly }} Second leg{{football box|bg=EEEEEE |date=28 February 2011 |time=20.00 |team1=Dundalk |score=1 − 1 |report=Report |team2=Linfield |goals1=Gaynor {{goal|11}} |goals2=Gault {{goal|45+3}} |stadium=Oriel Park |attendance=2250 |referee=Damien Hancock }}Dundalk won 6 − 4 on aggregate {{football box |bg=EEEEEE |date=28 February 2011 |time=19.45 |team1=Lisburn Distillery |score=2 − 0 |report=Report |team2=UCD |goals1=Browne {{goal|18|pen.}} Davidson {{goal|86}} |goals2= |stadium=New Grosvenor Stadium |attendance= |referee=Colin Burns}}Distillery won 2 − 0 on aggregate. {{football box |bg=EEEEEE |date=1 March 2011 |time=19.45 |team1=St Patrick's Athletic |score=2 − 0 |report=[https://web.archive.org/web/20110721124204/http://www.extratime.ie/fixtures/details/12440/2/ Report] |team2=Cliftonville |goals1=Mulcahy {{goal|41}} McMillan {{goal|80}} |goals2= |stadium=Richmond Park |attendance=1000 |referee=Derek Tomney (Dublin)}}Cliftonville won 3 − 2 on aggregate. {{football box |bg=EEEEEE |date=7 March 2011 |time=19.45 |team1=Portadown |score=2 − 0 |report=[https://int.soccerway.com/matches/2011/03/07/europe/irish-setanta-cup/portadown-fc/bohemian-football-club/1059757/ Report] |team2=Bohemians |goals1=Baker {{goal|10}} Mouncey {{goal|47}} |goals2= |stadium=Shamrock Park |attendance= |referee=}}Portadown won 4−1 on aggregate Quarter−FinalsThe winners of the four first round games joined the four seeded teams (Shamrock Rovers, Sligo Rovers, Crusaders and Glentoran) who received a Bye into the Quarter-Finals.
