The son of Donald McAlpine, he was born in Dubuc, Saskatchewan and was educated at the University of Manitoba. McAlpine worked as an insurance adjustor, as a claims manager for Merit Insurance and then operated his own company, McAlpine Investigations. He subsequently worked in real estate and as a nutritional food distributor.[2] McAlpine was first elected to the Manitoba legislature in the provincial election of 1990, defeating incumbent Liberal Iva Yeo by 769 votes in the riding of Sturgeon Creek. He was re-elected by a greater margin in the general election of 1995.[3] In the provincial election of 1999, McAlpine lost to NDP candidate Bonnie Korzeniowski by about 600 votes in the redistributed riding of St. James.[3] He did not contest the seat in 2003.[4] References1. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.gov.mb.ca/legislature/business/hansard/36th_3rd/punr_04/punr_004.html |archive-url=https://archive.is/20140406134526/http://www.gov.mb.ca/legislature/business/hansard/36th_3rd/punr_04/punr_004.html |dead-url=yes |archive-date=6 April 2014 |title=3rd-36th - Standing or Special Committee on Public Utilities and Natural Resources No. 04 |date=24 April 1997 |accessdate=6 October 2010 }} {{DEFAULTSORT:McAlpine, Gerry}}2. ^{{cite book |title=Canadian Parliamentary Guide |year=1997 |last=O'Handley |first=Kathryn |author2=Sutherland, Caroline |ISBN=1-896413-43-9}} 3. ^1 {{cite news |url=http://www.cbc.ca/manitobavotes2003/riding/043/ |title=St. James |work=Manitoba Votes 2003 |publisher=CBC News |accessdate=2014-04-06}} 4. ^1 {{cite web |title=MLA Biographies - Living |url=https://www.gov.mb.ca/legislature/members/mla_bio_living.html#m |publisher=Legislative Assembly of Manitoba |quote= |accessdate=2014-04-06}} 6 : 1939 births|Living people|Canadian people of Scottish descent|Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba MLAs|People from Saskatchewan|University of Manitoba alumni |
