The headwaters of the river rise in the Whicher Range in the Millbrook State Forest then flow in a northerly direction. The river crosses the Vasse Highway and then through Wonnerup Siding before discharging into the Vasse Estuary East of Busselton and finally the Indian Ocean. The river was named in 1834 by Frederick Ludlow. The name is Aboriginal in origin and is a greeting word used by the local peoples.[3] Construction of a bridge over the Abba and the Sabina River commenced in 1860, despite dreadful weather, and the rivers running high at the time.[4] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://maps.bonzle.com/c/a?a=p&cmd=sp&p=198762&st=&s=Abba%20River|title= Bonzle Digital Atlas – Map of Abba River|year=2009|accessdate=13 March 2009}} {{coord|33|39|6|S|115|27|40|E|type:river_region:AU|display=title}}{{Rivers of Western Australia}}2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.watercorporation.com.au/B/busselton_eii_catchment.cfm |title=Water Corporation - Busselton Catchment - Location and size |year=2004 |accessdate=12 March 2009 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20080725034829/http://www.watercorporation.com.au/B/busselton_eii_catchment.cfm |archivedate=25 July 2008 }} 3. ^{{LandInfo WA|r|A|1 September 2011}} 4. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article66008307 |title=Local and Domestic Intelligence. |newspaper=The Inquirer & Commercial News |location=Perth, Western Australia |date=18 July 1860 |accessdate=20 April 2013 |page=2 |publisher=National Library of Australia}} 2 : Rivers of Western Australia|South West (Western Australia) |
