The college is co-educational, and operates under the authority of Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board. There is also a secondary school of the same name in Ferrybank, Waterford City. HistoryAbbey Community College was formed in September 2002,[1] following the joining of Scoil Chriost an Ri, St Mary’s College and Boyle Vocational School. QualificationsAbbey Community College offers a wide range of school educational qualifications, including Leaving Certificate, Junior Certificate, a Transition Year Programme, and Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme. The college also runs two further education courses. These are FETAC level 5 Post Leaving Certificate courses, and are taught from a separate campus. FacilitiesAbbey Community College contains newly built facilities, including a lecture/demonstration room, a computerised language laboratory, an information technology department, a library, as well as specialist rooms for other subjects, including art, engineering, technical graphics, home economics, and music. Each of the school's thirty six classrooms are fitted with a projector, which can utilise the whiteboards as a screen for PowerPoint presentations for students, etc. The school is also home to three science laboratories. Sports facilities include basketball and tennis courts, a football pitch and access to the indoor sports complex situated on the school grounds.
