In 2009, the World Economic Forum named Haykal as a Young Global Leader, the first Syrian to receive this recognition.[1] Haykal is CEO of Transtek, an enterprise software development firm, and of Haykal Media, publisher of the business newsmagazine Aliqtisadi, and the English monthly Forward Magazine. The Report: Emerging Syria 2008 listed Haykal Media with its magazines and online media as one of three main players in the media sector in Syria.[2] Haykal is president of the Syrian Young Entrepreneurs Association (SYEA), an NGO formed as part of the reform process in Syria. He is also a founder and trustee in several other organizations including BIDAYA Foundation, an NGO to help disadvantaged young people to become entrepreneurs by providing business mentoring and charitable micro-loans; and Tumuhi, a national college scholarship fund. Haykal studied at the American University of Beirut,[3] and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. In June 2007, he was elected as an alumni trustee of the American University of Beirut,[4] the youngest in its history. He is also a trustee of the University of Kalamoon, a private higher education institution in Syria.[5] In April 2010, he was invited by the Obama Administration to the Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship, in recognition of his business development activities.[6] References1. ^WEF names Syrian entrepreneur as Young Global Leader {{authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Haykal, Abdulsalam}}2. ^https://books.google.com/books?id=VU7qiDYNbyoC&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_summary_r&cad=0 page 132 3. ^http://wwwlb.aub.edu.lb/~webbultn/v9n4/article3.htm 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.aub.edu.lb/news/archive/preview.php?id%3D78280 |title=Archived copy |accessdate=2008-07-25 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20080315072653/http://www.aub.edu.lb/news/archive/preview.php?id=78280 |archivedate=2008-03-15 |df= }} 5. ^http://www.thenational.ae/arts-culture/the-young-syrian-businessmen-making-it-happen 6. ^Syrian Business Visionary Strives to Boost Entrepreneurship {{webarchive |url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100430170152/http://www.america.gov/st/business-english/2010/April/20100420115607smtotrob0.7161219.html?CP.rss=true |date=April 30, 2010 }} 11 : Living people|1978 births|Businesspeople in software|Media industry businesspeople|American University of Beirut alumni|People from Damascus|Alumni of SOAS, University of London|Syrian magazine founders|Syrian chief executives|Syrian writers|American University of Beirut trustees |
