Genus Acanthacris belongs to subfamily Cyrtacanthacridinae (W.F. Kirby, 1902),^[2] of locusts (Acrididae), which

belongs to the same order (Orthoptera) as crickets (Gryllidae), katydids (Tettigoniidae), and other grasshoppers.
