In enzymology, an acetylxylan esterase ({{EC number|3.1.1.72}}) is an enzyme that catalyzes a chemical reaction, the deacetylation of xylans and xylo-oligosaccharides.

This enzyme belongs to the family of hydrolases, specifically those acting on carboxylic ester bonds. The systematic name of this enzyme class is likewise acetylxylan esterase.

Structural studies

As of late 2007, 4 structures have been solved for this class of enzymes, with PDB accession codes {{PDB link|1QOZ}}, {{PDB link|2C71}}, {{PDB link|2C79}}, and {{PDB link|2CC0}}.
