Outmanoeuvring her larger opponents, Scipion obtained a favourable position that allowed her to rake HMS London, causing severe damage and escaping. The British resumed the chase, and Scipion struck a rock in Samaná Bay, becoming a total loss.[1] Notes1. ^{{cite book|last1=Gardiner|first1=Robert|title=Navies and the American Revolution|date=1996|publisher=Naval Institute Press|isbn=9781557506238|pages=127}} References
