It is situated {{convert|55|km|mi}} south of Suez and approximately {{convert|120|km|mi}} east of Cairo. HistoryRecent archaeological excavations have shown that there was an ancient Egyptian port and settlement in this area. The site was first brought to attention in 1999 by Professor Mahmud Abd El Raziq.[2] French and Egyptian archaeologists have been investigating this area since that time. As early as the Old Kingdom, seafaring expeditions on the Red Sea were organized from this port. Similar material was also found at the Wadi Maghareh, where many Old Kingdom inscriptions are found.[3] ClimateKöppen-Geiger climate classification system classifies its climate as hot desert (BWh), as the rest of Egypt. {{Weather box|metric first=yes |single line=yes |location=Ain Sokhna |Jan high C=18 |Feb high C=19 |Mar high C=22 |Apr high C=27 |May high C=31 |Jun high C=33 |Jul high C=34 |Aug high C=34 |Sep high C=31 |Oct high C=29 |Nov high C=24 |Dec high C=19 |Jan low C=7 |Feb low C=7 |Mar low C=9 |Apr low C=12 |May low C=16 |Jun low C=19 |Jul low C=20 |Aug low C=21 |Sep low C=19 |Oct low C=16 |Nov low C=13 |Dec low C=8 |Jan precipitation mm=4 |Feb precipitation mm=4 |Mar precipitation mm=4 |Apr precipitation mm=2 |May precipitation mm=0 |Jun precipitation mm=0 |Jul precipitation mm=0 |Aug precipitation mm=0 |Sep precipitation mm=0 |Oct precipitation mm=1 |Nov precipitation mm=3 |Dec precipitation mm=4 |Jan rain days=3 |Feb rain days=3 |Mar rain days=2 |Apr rain days=2 |May rain days=2 |Jun rain days=1 |Jul rain days=0 |Aug rain days=0 |Sep rain days=0 |Oct rain days=1 |Nov rain days=3 |Dec rain days=4 |Jand sun=8 |Febd sun=8 |Mard sun=9 |Aprd sun=10 |Mayd sun=11 |Jund sun=12 |Juld sun=12 |Augd sun=11 |Sepd sun=10 |Octd sun=10 |Novd sun=8 |Decd sun=7 |source 1 = Weather2Travel[4] }}
