It made history several ways. It was the first dramatic soap opera created for internet distribution, which was shot in both English and Spanish for simultaneous distribution in two markets, as well as the first to feature a wealthy Hispanic family, a cross border relationship between a family from Texas and a family from Mexico, and the first internet series to cross over to television. It was created and executive produced by Rick Cuellar, who wrote the original script to use as a catalyst to break stereotypes and to create jobs for Hispanic actors in the entertainment industry. In 2005 Rick produced a 4-minute trailer in English and Spanish for use as a tool to present to potential investors. He took the trailer to the NATPE trade show in Las Vegas where he was able to obtain funding from an investment group in Houston to produce an internet series in 2006 consisting of 12 mini-episodes for distribution over the internet. The series was reformatted for television. After a 30-day run on the internet executive at LAT TV Patricia Torres-Burd purchased a license for two runs on television in 27 markets in the USA. Alamo Heights SA gave LAT TV the best ratings they ever had in the history of their network. 6 : American television soap operas|English-language television programs|Hispanic and Latino American culture in San Antonio|Mexican-American culture in San Antonio|San Antonio, Texas in fiction|Spanish-language television programming in the United States |
