The mall opened in 1968. Almeda Mall is anchored by Macy's, Burlington Coat Factory, Palais Royal, and a dd's DISCOUNTS. The mall has {{convert|782353|sqft|m2}} in leasable space.[1] HistoryAlmeda Mall opened with anchoring stores; Foley's, JCPenney (then branded Penneys), and Palais Royal. Almeda was the premiere mall for the area southeast of Houston until 1978 when Baybrook Mall opened a few exits south, much closer to the affluent Clear Lake/NASA area. Baybrook quickly replaced Almeda as the area's highly successful mall, and Almeda went into decline. The mall further declined as the nearby Pearland began to grow in size and it itself started to build more retail chained stores in the early 2000s, and the Pearland Town Center in 2008. In 2006, the mall was about 95% occupied. During that year Glimcher Realty Trust put the mall up for sale, along with the Northwest Mall [1], which was purchased by WCF Mall Management. JCPenney closed in 2006 and relocated to Pasadena, TX. Burlington Coat Factory took its spot. In 2006, Foley's rebranded to Macy's. Almeda Mall was originally anchored by Foley's and JCPenney, it is now anchored by Macy's, Burlington Coat Factory, Palais Royal, and a dd's DISCOUNTS.
