It is found in the US and southern Canada.[3] The wingspan is 38–52 mm. Adults are on wing from July through October depending on the location. There is one generation per year.[3] They overwinter as eggs. The larvae feed on the leaves of many broadleaf trees and shrubs, including apple, basswood, hawthorn, maple, oak, walnut, raspberry, grape, greenbrier (Smilax).[3] The larvae are active in the spring; when ready to pupate they build a shelter by rolling a leaf. Aggregations of newly eclosed adults are found under bark, etc., in mid-summer.[3] References1. ^Images of Amphipyra pyramidoides, Butterflies and Moths of North America {{Taxonbar|from=Q13429443}}{{Amphipyrinae-stub}}2. ^Amphipyra pyramidoides – Copper Underwing Moth – Guenée, 1852, North American Moth Photographers Group 3. ^1 2 3 4 Species Amphipyra pyramidoides - Copper Underwing - Hodges#9638, BugGuide 2 : Amphipyrinae|Moths of North America |
