He represented the Inangahua electorate from {{NZ election link year|1884}} to 1887; and then the Te Aro electorate in Wellington from {{NZ election link year|1887}} to 1890, when he retired.[1] He was reported to have died in Wellington on 25 September 1916. [2][3]He was a native of Edinburgh, but educated on the Continent and fluent in French.
