Andrew Archer (2 August 1659 – 31 December 1741) was a British landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons in three periods between 1690 and 1722.

Life

Archer was eldest son of Thomas Archer of Umberslade Hall in Tanworth in Arden, Warwickshire and his wife Anne Leigh, daughter of Richard Leigh of London.[1] and was baptized on 2 August 1659. His father had been a parliamentary commander during the Civil War. He matriculated at Trinity College, Oxford in 1678 and was admitted at Inner Temple in 1680. Upon his father's death in 1685 he inherited Umberslade.[2]

Archer served as Member of Parliament for Warwickshire from 1690 to 1698 and was a Commissioner for rebuilding Warwick in 1695. He was later MP for Warwickshire from 1705 to 1710. From 1711 to 1712 he was Commissioner in the inquiry into forces and garrisons in Spain, Portugal and Italy.[2] He was MP for Warwickshire again from 1713 to 1722.[3]

Family

Archer married Elizabeth Dashwood, daughter of Sir Samuel Dashwood by licence of 15 June 1693. Their children were:[1]
