}}Anisomorpha is a genus of walking stick insect capable of secreting a substance from glands on the metathorax that can cause an intense burning irritation of the eyes and mouth of potential predators on contact. In some cases, this causes temporary blindness. Species are found throughout the mainland Central, northern South America, and the southeastern United States. The adult female is larger than the male in length and width. There are currently four accepted species in this genus, and all are wingless.[2][3][4] References1. ^1 {{Cite web| title=Anisomorpha| url=https://www.gbif.org/species/1411619| website=GBIF| accessdate=2019-03-22}} [1][2][3]2. ^1 {{Cite web| title=Anisomorpha Genus Information| url=https://bugguide.net/node/view/323| website=bugguide.net| accessdate=2019-03-22}} 3. ^1 {{Cite web| accessdate = 2019-03-22| title = Phasmida species file online, Version 5.0| date = 2018| last1 = Brock | first1 = Paul D.| last2 = Otte | first2 = Daniel| url = http://phasmida.speciesfile.org/Common/basic/Taxa.aspx?TaxonNameID=1199462}} }} Further reading{{refbegin}}
