She is the founder and principal architect of Klingmann Architects and Brand Consultants,[1] and author of Brandscapes: Architecture in the Experience Economy.[2] Klingmann coined the term "brandism" which describes how architecture can communicate a company's brand to the public.[1] Her description of brandism can also be used not just to describe single structures; entire cities can have a unique brand or "expression of identity."[3] She also has described the concept of a "brandscape" which describes corporate value systems embodied into the physical landscape.[4] Klingmann believes that branded landscapes "effect lasting, meaningful changes that draw upon the dormant or explicit potential of particular cultures and places."[5] Klingmann moved to New York City in 1984 and went to the Parson's School of Design.[2] She earned her architecture degrees from Pratt Institute, the Architectural Association in London and the Berlin University of the Arts.[6] Klingmann's main influence is Louis Kahn.[2] Other influences include Zaha Hadid and Rem Koolhaas.[6] In 2007, she worked for the architecture firm, Gensler, to help on two large-scale projects.[7] In 2014, she began a collaborative project with the University and the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) which looks to connect artists, scientists, curators, and others with the history and culture of Asir.[8] Klingmann is currently the architecture department chair at Dar Al-Hekma University.[9] She has previously taught at Cornell University and Columbia University.[10] References1. ^1 {{Cite journal|last=Croft|first=Catherine|date=12 October 2007|title=From Bland to Brand|url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=bth&AN=27213570&site=ehost-live|journal=Building Design|volume=|issue=1791|pages=20–21|doi=|pmid=|access-date=6 September 2016|subscription=yes|via=EBSCOhost}} 2. ^1 2 {{Cite journal|last=Parman|first=John|date=March 2008|title=Brandscapes: Architecture in the Experience Economy|url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=a9h&AN=31387807&site=ehost-live|journal=Architectural Record|volume=196|issue=3|page=30|doi=|pmid=|access-date=6 September 2016|subscription=yes|via=EBSCOhost}} 3. ^{{Cite journal|last=|first=|date=May 2008|title=The Futurist Bookshelf|url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=f5h&AN=31535420&site=ehost-live|journal=Futurist|volume=42|issue=3|page=58|doi=|pmid=|access-date=6 September 2016|subscription=yes|via=EBSCOhost}} 4. ^{{Cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=L-w0DAAAQBAJ&lpg=PA150&dq=%22Anna%20Klingmann%22&pg=PA126#v=onepage&q=%22Anna%20Klingmann%22&f=false|title=Beyond Immersive Theatre: Aesthetics, Politics and Productive Participation|last=Alston|first=Adam|publisher=Palgrave Macmillan|year=2016|isbn=9781137480439|location=|pages=126|via=}} 5. ^{{Cite news|url=https://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-33226964.html|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20161008201619/https://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-33226964.html|dead-url=yes|archive-date=8 October 2016|title=Commentary: When Architecture Becomes Advertising|last=Shaffer|first=David|date=9 July 2012|work=Daily Journal of Commerce|subscription=yes|access-date=6 September 2016|via=HighBeam Research}} 6. ^1 {{Cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=bn5UEfJs1WMC&lpg=PA190&dq=%22Anna%20Klingmann%22&pg=PA191#v=onepage&q=%22Anna%20Klingmann%22&f=false|title=The Immersive Worlds Handbook: Designing Theme Parks and Consumer Spaces|last=Lukas|first=Scott|publisher=Focal Press|year=2013|isbn=9780240820934|location=|pages=190–192|via=}} 7. ^{{Cite news|url=https://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-168163491.html|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20161008194424/https://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-168163491.html|dead-url=yes|archive-date=8 October 2016|title=Gensler Retains Klingmann for Two Major Projects|last=|first=|date=22 August 2007|work=Real Estate Weekly|subscription=yes|access-date=6 September 2016|via=HighBeam Research}} 8. ^{{Cite news|url=https://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-391079945.html|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20161008194808/https://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-391079945.html|dead-url=yes|archive-date=8 October 2016|title=Dar Al-Hekma, SCTA Initiate 'Reinventing Asir' Project|last=|first=|date=22 November 2014|work=Arab News|subscription=yes|access-date=6 September 2016|via=HighBeam Research}} 9. ^{{Cite news|url=https://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-383619897.html|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20161008194800/https://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-383619897.html|dead-url=yes|archive-date=8 October 2016|title=German Engineer Initiates Massive Architectural Revival Initiative|last=Al-Fawaz|first=Nadia|date=26 September 2014|work=Arab News|subscription=yes|access-date=6 September 2016|via=HighBeam Research}} 10. ^{{Cite news|url=https://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-149166247.html|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20161008194325/https://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-149166247.html|dead-url=yes|archive-date=8 October 2016|title=Brandism Exhibit to Explore NYC Starchitecture|last=|first=|date=12 July 2006|work=Real Estate Weekly|subscription=yes|access-date=6 September 2016|via=HighBeam Research}} External links
