It is located on the island's western side, near Marigot Bay, and has several examples of French and English colonial architecture.[4] The name Anse la Raye is derived from the rays that are found in the bay, the English translation means Bay of Rays. Two rivers flow into the bay, these are the Grande Rivière de l'Anse la Raye and the Petite Rivière de l'Anse la Raye. On a Friday night there is a fish fry where the local fishermen showcase their skills and where lobsters, fish and lambi (conch) are cooked and eaten. The fish fry is located on Front Street which runs parallel to the beach.{{fact|date=April 2017}} The local Catholic church was built in 1907, but records show that a chapel has existed since 1765. The present church has murals painted by the St Omer Family. Nearby attractions include the Anse la Raye Falls and the River Rock Falls. The town is noted for its youth music groups, the "Cecilian Reys" and the "Anse La Raye Youth Orchestra", both of which were formed under the direction of Petronilla Deterville. Performing since 1981 throughout the country, the group aims to expand the cultural experiences of youth from the area.[5][6] GalleryReferencesAnse la Raye village website (www.anselaraye.com)1. ^http://freemeteo.com/default.asp?pid=15&gid=3576812&la=1 2. ^http://www.stats.gov.lc 3. ^http://www.stats.gov.lc 4. ^site:{{cite web|url=http://www.stlucia.gov.lc |title=Archived copy |accessdate=2012-06-17 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120520135020/http://www.stlucia.gov.lc/ |archivedate=2012-05-20 |df= }} anse shows mix of spellings Anse La Raye and Anse-La-Raye 5. ^{{cite news|last1=Bishop|first1=Stan|title=Petronilla Deterville’s Work Highlighted|url=http://thevoiceslu.com/2016/01/petronilla-detervilles-work-highlighted/|accessdate=3 November 2017|publisher=The Voice of St. Lucia|date=19 January 2016|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20171025141029/http://thevoiceslu.com/2016/01/petronilla-detervilles-work-highlighted/|archivedate=25 October 2017|location=Castries, St Lucia}} 6. ^{{cite news|author=|title=Piper’s Song: Volunteerism to Safeguard the Music Art Form|url=http://ufdcimages.uflib.ufl.edu/UF/00/09/84/59/00022/09-24-2011.pdf|accessdate=3 November 2017|issue=23|publisher=National Review|date=24 September 2011|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20171103204223/http://ufdcimages.uflib.ufl.edu/UF/00/09/84/59/00022/09-24-2011.pdf|archivedate=3 November 2017|location=Castries, St. Lucia|page=8}} 2 : Populated coastal places in Saint Lucia|Towns in Saint Lucia |
