It was here he co-founded Finnish band Aavikko in 1995, appearing on the band's first full album Derek! in 1997. He left Aavikko in 1999 and was replaced by the band's current keyboardist Paul Staufenbiel. Koivumäki's poems were first published when he was 16 years old. In 2000, he won the hill town of Kaarina's Culture Poetry Prize and he published his first work 'In the Afternoon, Rotting Parks Come To Mind'. DeathKoivumäki drowned in July 2002 in Helsinki. At the time of his death he was only 25 years old. His second collection of poems 'Comfortable Neighbourhoods' was published posthumously in 2003. List of works
