He initially enrolled at the National Autonomous University of Mexico but ended up graduating with both a Bachelor of Arts degree (1953) and a PhD in Astronomy (1956) from the University of California, Berkeley.[2] Afterward, he moved back to Mexico and enrolled at the Institute of Astronomy of the National Autonomous University, where he has worked as a researcher since 1956. As a visiting scholar, he has lectured at the Institute of Astrophysics in France (CNRS, 1963), Columbia University (1967), Kitt Peak National Observatory (1981–82, 1983–84), and at the University of California, San Diego (1982–83).[2] A public planetarium in his native Mérida, Yucatán, is named in his honor.[4] References1. ^1 {{cite web | author = El Colegio Nacional | title = Miembros: Poveda Ricalde, Arcadio | url = http://www.colegionacional.org.mx/SACSCMS/XStatic/colegionacional/template/content.aspx?se=vida&te=detallemiembro&mi=138 | language = Spanish | accessdate = 2008-06-08 | deadurl = yes | archiveurl = https://web.archive.org/web/20080917062549/http://www.colegionacional.org.mx/SACSCMS/XStatic/colegionacional/template/content.aspx?se=vida&te=detallemiembro&mi=138 | archivedate = 2008-09-17 | df = }} {{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Poveda Ricalde, Arcadio}}{{Mexico-scientist-stub}}{{astronomer-stub}}2. ^1 2 3 {{cite web|first=Arcadio |last=Poveda |title=Curriculum vitae |url=http://www.colegionacional.org.mx/SACSCMS/XStatic/colegionacional/template/pdf/1989/06%20-%20Arcadio%20Poveda%20Ricalde_%20Curriculum%20vitae.pdf |language=Spanish |accessdate=2008-06-10 |format=PDF |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110606071403/http://www.colegionacional.org.mx/SACSCMS/XStatic/colegionacional/template/pdf/1989/06%20-%20Arcadio%20Poveda%20Ricalde_%20Curriculum%20vitae.pdf |archivedate=2011-06-06 }} 3. ^{{cite web |first = James |last = Binney | title= Dynamics of Elliptical Galaxies and Other Spheroidal Components | publisher = Annual Reviews | date = 1982 | url = http://nedwww.ipac.caltech.edu/level5/March04/Binney/Binney3_2.html | accessdate = 2008-06-10 }} 4. ^{{cite web |author=Municipality of Mérida | title = Planetario Arcadio Poveda | url = http://www.merida.gob.mx/planetario/principal.htm | language = Spanish | accessdate = 2008-06-10 | archiveurl= https://web.archive.org/web/20080606034230/http://www.merida.gob.mx/planetario/principal.htm| archivedate= 6 June 2008 | deadurl= no}} 8 : Mexican astronomers|Members of El Colegio Nacional|Members of the Mexican Academy of Sciences|University of California, Berkeley alumni|National Autonomous University of Mexico faculty|People from Mérida, Yucatán|1930 births|Living people |
