Arctic Figure Skating Club (AFSC): located at Arctic Edge Ice arena in Canton, Michigan. A probationary club in 2003 became a full member of U.S. Figure Skating in 2004 and has risen quickly in membership and prominence.

Coaching staff

All coaches are Members of US Figure Skating and Professional Skating Association. Their own accomplishments contribute to the great success of training.

Igor Shpilband The Ice Dance director since September 2003 Was named the Coach of the year in 1999 & 2005 In 2005 Named the US figure skating choreographer of the year
Marina Zoueva Has coached with Igor Since 2002. In 1994 earned highest merit awards for her coaching and choreography in Russia
Johnny Johns Has been coaching since 1979 Is a National, World, and Olympic coach Has served on many USFSA and PSA committees
Theresa McKendry Learn to Skate director Has been coaching for 27 years Specialties include choreography, all levels of moves in the field
Jeri Campbell Coaches all levels from beginner to highest levels Has taught National, World, Olympic competitors and medalists
Gary Clark Was part of the committee that originated moves in the field Is a former national judge and referee An ISU Technical Specialist in the new judging system
Lisa Kirby Has sixteen years of coaching experience Coaching specialties include moves in the field, all levels of freestyle and choreography Taken skaters to sectional and national championships
Tammy Liptak Has over 25 years of experience Her specialty is moves in the field Coaches all levels of moves and freestyle
Adrienne Lenda Specialties include: freestyle, pairs, choreography, and moves in the field Coaches nationally and internationally Has been coaching for over 12 years
Erin Sutton Is a member of USFSA and PSA Specialties include Basic Skills, freestyle, choreography, and Stroking

Skaters Highlights

Skaters from all over the world have trained at the club. They have achieved medals in Regional, World, National, and Olympic competitions. There are many accomplishments from the skaters. Some include:

In 2009, Meryl Davis and partner Charlie White won the National Championship in ice dancing, along with 6 gold and 2 bronze at National and World Competitions.

Alissa Czisny won Skate Canada in 2005, in 2004 won the US Collegiate Championships and got a bronze medal at the 2006 US Championships.

Bengamin Agusto and Tanith Belbin won the silver medal at the 2006 Winter Olympic games.

Brooke Castile and Bengamin Okolski won the gold at the 2008 National Championship in pairs.

In 2008, Madison Chock and partner Greg Zuerlein received the gold medal in 3 Junior Grand Prix's and a gold in the Junior US Championships.Tessa Virtue and partner Scott Moir, since 2005 have received 10 gold, 6 silver, and 4 bronze medals at National and World Competitions.

Shannon Wingle and Tim McKernan were pewter medalists in 2009.

There are many more accomplishments from other skaters, such as Jamie Silverstein and partner Ryan O'Meara, Zhang Dan and partner Zhang Hao, Kendra Moyle and partner Steven Pottenger.

Events/Programs
Campus Martius Park The skaters are invited every year to skate for the tree lighting ceremony in Detroit MI
Ice Shows Each December the rink and club hold an ice show for all ages to display their talents
Basic Skills Program A program where the teachers hold classes to teach young children how to skate, they learn the beginning elements of skating
Basic Skills Competition All levels of Basic Skills can compete on what they learned in the former years to get a feel of what competing is like
Competition In 2009, The Arctic Edge Arena held the tri-state competition, for competitors from the Great Lakes Region.
Benefits The skaters from the club put on a show to raise money. Cancer foundation, Hurricane Katrina victims
Test session The students can come and test, to move up to a higher level. Held once a year
Summer Program Variety of stroking, off-ice, strength training, ballet, and yoga are held for the members during the summer sessions
Theater on IceMembers can join the clubs theater on ice team to compete at Theater Nationals.
