It is also armed with SA-18 Grouse missiles. Like other ships of this class, it was designed and built in Mexican dockyards, and is sometimes referred to as a compact frigate. It was named after the Mexican state of DurangoDrug InterceptionOn December 6, 2009, ARM Durango, in a joint operation with a United States Coast Guard ship, intercepted four boats {{convert|55|nmi|km}} from the Guatemalan - Mexico border in the Pacific.
