Arthur Lewis Brown (November 28, 1854 – June 10, 1928) was a United States federal judge. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Brown received an A.B. from Brown University in 1876 and an LL.B. from Boston University School of Law in 1878. He was in private practice in Providence, Rhode Island from 1878 to 1895. On October 15, 1896, Brown received a recess appointment from Grover Cleveland to a seat on the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island vacated by George M. Carpenter. Formally nominated on December 8, 1896, Brown was confirmed by the United States Senate on December 15, 1896, and received his commission the same day. Brown served in that capacity until his retirement, on June 30, 1927. He died in Providence, Rhode Island. Sources
