The programme has been introduced by Jatinder Verma, "himself a child of the diaspora",[1] who was born in Dar es Salaam and grew up in Kenya and was the first Asian theatre director to direct a play at Britain's National Theatre. Asian Diasporas's broadcast history to date consists of Family which looked at Japanese people in Latin America and elsewhere; Business, which examined Korean family business in the USA; and Politics, which focused on Chinese dissident activists in the USA and Europe. All three themes are inter-woven into each episode.[1] The series was produced by Allison Puranik and edited by Maria Balinska. Use in academiaParts of the audio of the series have been used to teach English as a second language to students at The Hong Kong University.[2] The series was also featured as a primary source by James Hevia in a course about immigration at the University of North Carolina.[3] References1. ^1 2 {{cite web|url=http://www.indiantelevision.com/y2k2/aug/aug50.htm|work=indiantelevision.com|title=BBC World Service explores Asian Diasporas |date=9 August 2002|accessdate=17 December 2013}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://lc.ust.hk/~courses/1008/material.html|work=The Hong Kong University|title=English for University Studies II (course syllabus for LSNG 1008) |date=n.d.|accessdate=17 December 2013}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.unc.edu/courses/ints077/OLf2003/migration-eunice.ppt|work=The University of North Carolina|title=Diasporas and Transnational Migrant Networks: The Migration of People and the Global Issues of Multiculturalism(see slide # 32) |first=James|last=Hevia|date=28 October 2013|accessdate=17 December 2013}} External links
