}}Avis Thayer Bohlen (born April 20, 1940 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania)[2] is a diplomat and former Assistant Secretary for Arms Control (1999–2002)[3][4] and United States Ambassador to Bulgaria (1996–99).[5]

Life

Her parents were Charles E. Bohlen, former Ambassador to the Soviet Union (1953–57),[6] and Avis Howard Thayer.[2]

She is a member of the American Academy of Diplomacy[7] and Council on Foreign Relations.[8]
