Ayyalusamy Ramamoorthy is the Robert W. Parry Collegiate Professor of Chemistry and Biophysics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Early life and educationHe received a Ph.D. in chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1990. He is graduated in Chemistry of 1984 batch from V.O.C. Arts & Science College, Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu. CareerHis main area of research is the development of solid-state NMR and its applications to non-soluble, non-crystalline chemical and biological solids.[1][2] He is known for the development of solid-state NMR methods (such as USEME, PISEMA, PITANSEMA, HIMSELF, etc.)[3] and as a researcher of membrane-associated peptides and proteins, an organizer of international symposia, and author of a book on NMR Spectroscopy of biological solids.[4][5] He was also involved in the characterization of new nanomaterials.[6] He teaches Chemistry, Biophysics and NMR to undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Michigan.
