Baksan River, also known as Azau ({{lang-ru|Баксан, Азау}}) is a river in Kabardino-Balkaria in Russia. It flows east northeast and joins the Malka River just before that river joins the northwest bend of the Terek River. The Baksan is {{convert|173|km|mi}} long, with a drainage basin of {{convert|6800|km2|mi2}}. The Baksan originates in the glaciers of the Elbrus. The towns of Tyrnyauz and Baksan are along the Baksan River, and there is a 25 MW hydropower plant on the river.[1][2] Baksan is also the site of the Baksan Underground Scintillation Telescope (BUST) of the Baksan Neutrino Observatory.[3] References 1. ^{{cite web|title=Baksan River|url=http://bse.sci-lib.com/article090731.html|publisher=Great Soviet Encyclopedia|language=ru|accessdate=January 30, 2016}} 2. ^{{cite web|title=Baksan River Hydro|url=http://www.kbf.rushydro.ru/hpp/general/baksanhpp|publisher=Baskan HPP|language=ru|accessdate=January 30, 2016}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=Baksan Neutrino Observatory|url=http://www.inr.ru/eng/ebno.html|publisher=Baskan Neutrino Observatory|language=ru|accessdate=January 30, 2016}}
