Ballygunge (Vidhan Sabha constituency) ({{lang-bn|বালিগঞ্জ বিধানসভা কেন্দ্র}}) is an assembly constituency in Kolkata in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Overview

As per orders of the Delimitation Commission, No. 161 Ballygunge (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is composed of the following: Ward Nos. 60, 61, 64, 65, 68, 69 and 85, of Kolkata municipal corporation.[1]

Ballygunge (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is part of No. 23 Kolkata Dakshin (Lok Sabha constituency).[1]

1977-2006

In the 2006 state assembly elections Ahmed Javed Khan of Trinamool Congress won the Balluginge assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Rabin Deb of Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)). Rabin Deb of CPI(M) defeated Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar of Trinamool Congress in 2001, Dibyendu Biswas of Indian National Congress in 1996, and Dibyendu Biswas of Congress in 1992.The Bye Poll In 1992 Caused by the Death of Sitting MLA Sachin Sen.Sachin Sen of CPI(M) defeated Sushobhan Basu of Congress in 1991 and 1987, Rathin Talukdar of Congress in 1982, and Subrata Mukherjee of Congress in 1977.[19]

1951-1972

Subrata Mukherjee of Indian National Congress defeated Jyotibhushan Bhattacharya of Workers Party of India in 1972[8]and 1971.[7] Jyotibhushan Bhattacharya of Workers Party of India defeated Ranadeb Choudhury of Congress in 1969[6]and Anil Moitra of Congress in 1967.[5] Anil Maitra of Congress defeated Jnanendra Nath Mazumdar of Communist Party of India (CPI) in 1962.[4]Jnenendra Mazumdar of CPI defeated Mira Dutta Gupta of Congress in 1957.[3] In independent India’s first election in 1951,[2] Baniapukur-Ballygunge was a joint seat. Pulin Behari Khatic and Jogesh Chandra Gupta, both of Congress, won the seat.Ram Lal Shaw and Jnanendra Mazumdar, both independents, were runners-up. [20]
