The aim was to facilitate professional degrees and to run undergraduate, graduate and post graduate degrees through its faculties, affiliated and embodied colleges, institutes, academy or organizations. BUP, with its own unique features, is set up in a green landscape of Mirpur Cantonment located in Dhaka City. The university provides a tranquil, pollution free and secured campus life and above all, a congenial academic atmosphere. BUP deals with not only the education of the armed forces personnel but also the students of civilian community from home and abroad. It welcomes those students who intend to dedicate their total attention and devotion to serious academic pursuits to build up better tomorrow for the nation. BUP is dedicated to providing high quality education that delivers real benefits for the students. Thus, BUP is the unique academic entity in the country, where blending between the civilian and the armed forces students of diverse skills, experience, exposure and attitude is possible. .[1] HistoryBangladesh University of Professionals was established in 5 June 2008 by Bangladesh Armed Forces in Mirpur Cantonment as the 29th public university of Bangladesh. Faculty of Medical Studies (FMS)Faculty and department detailsFaculty of Arts and Social Science (FASS)Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) started its journey of “excellence through knowledge’’ as Faculty of General Studies (FGS) in 2009. It was renamed as Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) on 26 August 2014. This faculty presently has 43 faculty members and 1057 students. There are total 07 departments under this faculty. Currently six departments are offering BA/BSS (Honours) programs and one department is looking after BA/BSS program for military personnel. Department of Development Studies is offering Master's Program in Development Studies (MDS), which is a self-financed program. Departments at a glance 1.Department of Disaster & Human Security Management : The Department was launched in the year 2015. This department has total eight (08) faculty members and two hundred and twenty seven (227) students. Total number of batches is four (04). 2.Department of Economics : The Department was launched in the year 2015. This department has total eleven (11) faculty members and three hundred and forty-two (342) students. Total number of batches is four (04). 3.Department of English : The Department was launched in the year 2016. This department has total seven (07) faculty members and one hundred and thirty three (133) students. Total number of batches is three (03). 4.Department of Development Studies : The Department was launched in the year 2016. This department has total nine (09) faculty members and one hundred and twenty seven (127) students. Total number of batches is three (03). The Department also offers a Master's Program in Development Studies (MDS), which is a self-financed program. This is a two-year Master's program having four semesters. Total number of Batches is two (02). 5.Department of Public Administration : The Department was launched in the year 2016. This department has total four (04) faculty members and one hundred and thirty eight (138) students. Total number of batches is three (03). 6.Department of Sociology : The Department was launched in the year 2017. This department has total four (04) faculty members and ninety (90) students. Total number of batches is two (02). Programs1.BA/BSS (Honours) Programs- All The departments of this faculty run four years BA/BSS (Honours) programs which are divided into eight (08) semesters. There are two semesters in a year. Duration of each semester is six (06) months. 2.Master's Programs- At present Department of Development Studies is conducting Master’s program of two years which is self-financed and classes are conducted on weekends (Friday and Saturday). Department of Economics and Department of Disaster & Human Security Management will launch Master’s programs from the year 2019. Faculty of Science and Technology (FST)The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) under BUP started its activity in full swing from the early 2012. At present it has two departments ICE and ES. The Department of Information and Communication Engineering is one of the pioneer Departments of this University. Environmental Science comprises a multidisciplinary endeavor to seek knowledge for the wellbeing of the society. This discipline plays vital and in fact indispensable role in all fields of traditional and modern human activities. Hence Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) took initiative to promote the subject like Environmental Science to create the indispensable human resource, experts of the field and contribute to the nation building. The Department of INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING (ICE) offers Bsc. in INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION Engineering(ICE).It is one of the pioneer Departments of this University providing top-quality educations in Information technology and Communication Engineering at its undergraduate program. ICT is the leading booming sector in present day. It is already declared as a thrust sector in Bangladesh. Keeping this in mind, the department offers ICE courses to produce Information Technology and Communication specialist. INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING(ICE) program is designed to produce graduates with solid foundation in information technology skills and knowledge that can be applied across a wide range of application. It focuses on the systems development aspects of employment in the information technology profession. Students gain extensive experience in developing information and communications technology to address the needs of modern organizations. The program includes basic programming concepts and modern programming environments, network engineering principles, communication system networking, object-oriented software architectures, enterprise web, cloud and mobile technologies, and software quality management it also encompasses. Industrial orientation, project management and communication skills are developed in addition to exploration of the technical and human aspects of information technology and its use. Modern communication technologies with internet protocol, wireless, optical mobile, satellite multimedia etc. are different signal processes. Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Environmental Science program is designed to produce graduates with solid foundation and knowledge in all the spheres of earth including air, water, soil and human being. It focuses on creating skilled human resources in the field of environmental science. Students gain extensive experience in developing effective formulation to mitigate and manage environmental pollution and how to build a sustainable environment. The program includes basic knowledge about the environment, the causes behind its exploitation, probable mitigation and management. Organizational orientation, project management and communication skills are developed in addition to exploration of the technical and human aspects of Environmental Science. Club activitiesFrom the inception of BUP, the students of this university have been voluntarily participating in extra-curricular and club activities to enhance their physical, intellectual, moral and ethical development. The clubs are active and contribute successfully in arranging different events in the university. They organize inter-batch/department competitions, teams for inter-university and other competitions etc. They also organize different important events like cultural, sports, debate etc. and participate in different events and competitions.
