Today it serves as a suburb outside the northern edge of Troon. {{coord|55|34|00|N|4|38|30|W|display=title}}To the north-east of Barassie is the Kilmarnock Barassie Golf Club, which is where Gordon Sherry played. Barassie railway station is situated on the Ayrshire Coast Line, and there are sporadic rail services from the station to Ayr and Glasgow on a daily basis. Barassie is a diverse area consisting of a mixture of affluent middle class suburbs to the north and some better insulated social housing to the south. HistoryArchæological site investigations have identified Neolithic and Bronze Age remains.[1] In the mid 19th century the village developed from a farm and mill and became a centre of railway wagon maintenance.[2] References1. ^{{cite journal|last=Arabaolaza|first=Iraia|date=February 2017|title=Prehistoric settlement and ritual activities at Barassie, South Ayrshire|journal=Scottish Archaeological Journal|volume=39|issue=1|url=http://www.euppublishing.com/doi/pdfplus/10.3366/saj.2017.0078|url-access=subscription|via=Edinburgh University Press|pages=35–94|doi=10.3366/saj.2017.0078}} {{commonscat|Barassie}}{{South Ayrshire}}2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.scottish-places.info/towns/townfirst1090.html|title=Barassie (New Kilmarnock)|work=Gazetteer for Scotland|accessdate=1 October 2017}} 3 : Villages in South Ayrshire|Firth of Clyde|Troon |
