You have to travel about 11 kilometers from Allama Iqbal International Airport to reach village Barki. It is on the bank of Bambawali-Ravi-Bedian Canal where Major Aziz Bhatti was martyred (Jam-e Shahadat) in 1965 war between Pakistan and India. Its importance is as a central place for many border small and big villages and towns on Pakistan side. The village was also captured by the Indian forces during the Indo-Pakistani war of 1965 It is a center of education for the border belt. Former Prime Minister (Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan) late Malik Meraj Khalid founded Anjuman Ikhwan-e-Islam in 1939 and later on Ikhwan school and college in this village. Later a separate degree college for boys was founded. In popular cultureThis village is mentioned in a 1999 Punjabi movie Shaheed-E-Mohabbat. This film is based on a true love story of Boota Singh and Zainab in 1947. Zainab's family migrated to this village after the independence of Pakistan in 1947. See also
