The cause of basophilia can be determined through a bone marrow biopsy, genetic testing to look for genetic mutations, or ultrasound to determine enlargement of the spleen. Basophilia is associated with pruritus (itching) due to the release of histamine.[3] TreatmentBasophilia is not likely to be treated directly. Instead, treatments will focus on the person’s underlying medical treatment.
