The battle, with the concomitant battle for the adjoining peak of Tololing, culminated in Indian forces capturing Tiger Hill. Indian battalions involved in the operation included 8 Sikh, 2 Naga, and 18 Grenadiers. Main battleTo launch an offensive and repel the Pakistani intruders from Tiger Hill, three battalions of the Indian Army, namely 18 Grenadiers, 2 Naga, and 8 Sikh, were chosen to assault the peak with support from the Regiment of Artillery.[3] The total assault required over 200 troops,[3] who received rear support from a further 2,000 troops. 18 Grenadiers further sub-divided themselves into Alpha, Charlie, and Ghatak companies when they carried out the assault on 3 July 1999 to attack from the rear.[3] In the final assault at the Tiger Hill top, ten Pakistani soldiers were killed while two escaped.[3][4] Five Indian soldiers also killed in the battle.[3][4] The whole operation lasted 36 hours.[3] By 6:50 am on 4 July, the Indians had re-captured Tiger Hill (Point 4660).[1][3] In all, 38 Indian troops were killed in action, while 92 Pakistani troops were killed in action.[5] Yogendra Singh Yadav of 18 Grenadiers was awarded the highest military honour of the Indian Republic, the Param Vir Chakra.[6] Overall Yadav was hit by 14 bullets and played a major role in capture of Tiger hills.[7]References1. ^1 {{Cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=qYK0BhcgwaQC&pg=PA142 |title=Wars, Proxy-wars and Terrorism: Post Independent India |last=Wilson Prabhakar |first=Peter |publisher=Mittal Publications |year=2003 |isbn=9788170998907 |page=142}} 2. ^{{Cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=sUIgAwAAQBAJ&pg=PA190 |title=Asymmetric Warfare in South Asia: The Causes and Consequences of the Kargil Conflict |publisher=Cambridge University Press |year=2009 |isbn=9781139482820 |editor-last=Lavoy |editor-first=Peter R. |page=190}} 3. ^1 2 3 4 5 6 {{Cite book |url=https://books.google.co.in/books?id=XlHplc3pr1IC&pg=PA211 |title=War and Peace in Kargil Sector |last=Dutt |first=Sanjay |publisher=APH Publishing |year=2000 |isbn=9788176481519 |pages=210–213}} 4. ^1 {{Cite book |url=https://books.google.co.in/books?id=0RBOnS8KsgcC&pg=PA123 |title=India's Borderland Disputes: China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal |last=Orton |first=Anna |publisher=Epitome Books |year=2010 |isbn=9789380297156 |page=123}} 5. ^{{Cite book |url=https://books.google.co.in/books?id=QP1tAAAAMAAJ |title=Data India |publisher=Press Institute of India |year=1999 |page=419}} 6. ^{{Cite web |url=http://www.bharat-rakshak.com:80/LAND-FORCES/History/1999/308-Seven-Hour-Battle.html |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090821105628/http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/LAND-FORCES/History/1999/308-Seven-Hour-Battle.html |dead-url=yes |archive-date=21 August 2009 |title=Seven Hour Battle that won India, Tiger Hill |website=Bharat Rakshak |publication-date=18 May 2005 |df=dmy-all }} 7. ^{{cite book|last1= Bisht|first1=Rachana|title= The Brave: Param Vir Chakra Stories|date=2009|publisher=Penguin Books|page= Yoginder singh Yadav Ghatak|url= https://books.google.com/books?id=rgEWBAAAQBAJ&pg=PT210&dq=yoginder+singh+yadav+14+bullets&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjOqIvq6dPbAhU2FzQIHQUsDzAQ6AEIJzAA#v=snippet&q=fourteen%20bullets&f=false|accessdate=15 April 2017|language=en}} External links
