}}Bellemont is an unincorporated community in Coconino County, Arizona, United States, along Interstate 40 about {{convert|11|mi|km}} west-northwest of Flagstaff. At an elevation of {{convert|7132|ft}}, it is claimed to be the highest settlement along historic Route 66. It was a known water stop due to its local springs. As of June 2012, it had an estimated population of 893.[2]

History

In October 2010, Bellemont was struck by a tornado.[3] It made 15 homes uninhabitable, resulting in the evacuation of about 30 people.[3] A train and 30 recreational vehicles were damaged, but no serious injuries or deaths were reported.[3]

Climate

The Bellemont region experiences warm (but not hot) and dry summers, with no average monthly temperatures above {{convert|71.6|F}}. It has an average 240 days per year with temperatures below {{convert|32|F}}, making it colder than Fairbanks, Alaska. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Bellemont has a continental climate (abbreviated "Dsb" on climate maps).[4]

The Flagstaff field office of the National Weather Service is in Bellemont.[5]
