It is the largest of the Wellington Regional parks, stretching close to {{convert|15|km|mi|0}} from Wellington Harbour to Haywards and {{convert|10|km|mi|0}} to Porirua, containing farm land, native bush, and peaks up to {{convert|456|m}} (Belmont Trig). There are several entrances from the Hutt Valley side and two on the Porirua side. Some tracks permit mountain biking and horse riding.
