}}Belosaepia, occasionally incorrectly Belosepia,[1] is an extict genus of cuttlefish-like cephalopod known from the Eocene.[2] MorphologySpecies of the genus Belosaepia reached {{convert|18|cm|in}} in length and {{convert|5|cm|in}} across and had a large siphuncle that penetrated its oblique septa.[2] The shell was endogastrically coiled.[2] It had a small belemnite-like guard, which took the form of a short horn at the posterior end of the shell;[2] usually, only a small portion of the shell closest to the guard is preserved. The chambers in the shell closely resemble those present in the cuttlebone of modern cuttlefish.[2] EcologyBelosaepia lived close to the sea floor.[2]References1. ^e.g. {{Cite web|url=http://gsa.confex.com/gsa/2007AM/finalprogram/abstract_123930.htm |title= Functional Morphology of the Eocene Coleoid Belosepia}} {{fossil cephalopods}}{{Taxonbar|from=Q4884559}}2. ^1 2 3 4 5 6 7 {{Cite journal | journal = Journal of Paleontology | first3 = M. | volume = 84 | pages = 267–287| url = http://www.lakeneosho.org/Belosaepia/pdf/Growth%20and%20skeleton%20characters%20of%20Belosaepia.pdf | last3 = Wicksten | first2 = C.
