LifeBernard joined the Cistercians in 1177.[1] He was sent with a group of other monks to establish a monastery at Grandassilva in Estremadura, which effort failed when the community was devastated by the plague. He is Patron saint of Candeleda, Spain, and is invoked against rabies.[1] Notes1. ^1 [https://books.google.com/books?id=9QHbAQAAQBAJ&pg=PA313&lpg=PA313&dq=Bernard+of+Valdeiglesias&source=bl&ots=p828_Bs38B&sig=J8YDClvxsEhAWQ1f08-0wcLOVa8&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjXoo34koHbAhXss1kKHbnEA_Y4ChDoAQhJMAs#v=onepage&q=Bernard%20of%20Valdeiglesias&f=false Merton, Thomas.
