Until he retired in June 2017 he was a partner of KPMG and he now works as a special adviser to them.[2] In 2016 Bernard Salt wrote a column for The Australian in which he blamed the spending habits of Young Australians (Millennials) on avocado toast breakfasts as the cause of their inability to afford to purchase a home.[3] " I have seen young people order smashed avocado with crumbled feta on five-grain toasted bread at $22 a pop and more. I can afford to eat this for lunch because I am middle-aged and have raised my family. But how can young people afford to eat like this? Shouldn't they be economising by eating at home?
