CareerPowell was born in Maidstone, Kent. He was on the books of Nottingham Forest, though never played for the league side,[1] and played for Gresley Rovers and Grantham Avenue before making his first appearance in the Football League, for Chesterfield Town in the Second Division in the 1906–07 season.[3] A few months later he appeared for Barnsley, also in the Second Division, then spent time at Carlisle United, New Brompton and Coventry City,[4][5] surfacing for a third time in the Second Division with Birmingham in 1910.[1] He scored on his Birmingham debut,[6] but soon left for a tour of senior non-league football either side of the First World War,[7] finishing off his career with Sutton Town in 1923.[1] References1. ^1 2 3 4 5 6 {{Cite book|title = Football League Players' Records 1888 to 1939|last = Joyce|first = Michael|publisher = Tony Brown|year = 2012|isbn = 190589161X|location = Nottingham|page = 234}} {{DEFAULTSORT:Powell, Bert}}{{England-footy-forward-1880s-stub}}2. ^{{Cite web|url=http://vintagefootballers.com/product/powell-bert-image-2-new-brompton-1908/|title=Powell Bert Image 2 New Brompton 1908|website=Vintage Footballers|language=en-GB|access-date=28 December 2018}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.gresleyfc.com/players/?id=1777 |title=Player profile: Powell |work=Gresley Rovers Archive |publisher=Gresley F.C. |accessdate=15 October 2010}} 4. ^{{Cite web |url=http://www.gillinghamfcscrapbook.co.uk/DisplayPlayer.php?playername=Powell,Bert |title=Gillingham FC Career Details – Bert Powell |website=www.gillinghamfcscrapbook.co.uk |accessdate=28 December 2018}} 5. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.11v11.com/players/herbert-powell-47342/|title=Herbert Powell|website=11v11.com|access-date=28 December 2018}} 6. ^{{cite book |last=Matthews |first=Tony |title=Birmingham City: A Complete Record |year=1995 |publisher=Breedon Books |location=Derby |page=118 |isbn=978-1-85983-010-9}} 7. ^{{Cite book|title=100 Years Of Brentford|last=|first=|publisher=Brentford FC|year=1989|isbn=0951526200|editor-last=White|editor-first=Eric|location=|page=363|pages=|quote=|via=}} 25 : People from Nottingham|English footballers|Association football forwards|Treharris Athletic Western F.C. players|Nottingham Forest F.C. players|Gresley F.C. players|Grantham Avenue F.C. players|Chesterfield F.C. players|Barnsley F.C. players|Carlisle United F.C. players|Gillingham F.C. players|Coventry City F.C. players|Birmingham City F.C. players|Rotherham Town F.C.
