Before 1945 the area of Farther Pomerania, where the village is located, was part of Germany.[2] After the end of World War II the inhabitants were expelled. For the post-war history of the region, see History of Pomerania. The village has a population of 921 in 2008. In 2010, INFO-FM-TV built a 124 metres tall broadcasting tower at Bierkowo.
