Aldag had his first league season in 1928 with Footscray. In 1930 he joined Collingwood and was a half forward flanker in their 1930 premiership team. Aldag enlisted in the 2nd AIF in 1940 and served in the Middle East in 1941 before being posted to Java, where he was declared missing in 1942. He was later found in a POW camp in Thailand where he worked on the infamous Burma Railway in appalling conditions. He returned home in November 1945.[3] References{{Commons category}}1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/Veteran.aspx?serviceId=A&veteranId=436872|title=Aldag, William|publisher=World War Two Nominal Roll|accessdate=2 September 2014}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=https://forever.collingwoodfc.com.au/players/bill-aldag/|title=Bill Aldag|publisher=Collingwood Forever|accessdate=2 September 2014}} 3. ^{{cite book | author=Cullen, Barbara |title=Harder than football : league players at war|page= 237 |publication-date=2015 |location=Richmond, Victoria | publisher=Slattery Media Group | isbn=978-0-992379-14-8}}
